Description

during the early American Civil War, Union troops burned the Jasper County Courthouse in rebute of the Pro-Confederate stance of the county... after the Union Army left, the town of Carthage, Missouri, joined together to build this beautiful tribute to resolve.. it houses a civil war museum as well as the judical branch of government for the county.

Gorgeous Romanesque! I wish my courthouse looked like that..it was built around 1920 so its much more boxlike and not as fancy. My town hall is a large vicorian/colonial revival mansion built in 1895 for a doctor..but it was modernized in the 60's and they brutally destroyed the inside with fake paneling, drop cielings..oo well some people are just dumb..thanks for sharing
